I recently joined representatives of the Residents Against Mordialloc Freeway (RAMF) group to inspect the proposed route of the Mordialloc Freeway project.
After this visit, I am very concerned about its impact on remnant vegetation and the significant wetlands in this area. I think there is every likelihood that it will simply shift the existing bottleneck from the end of the Mornington Peninsula Freeway (M11) at Springvale Road, Chelsea Heights to the other end of the proposed freeway.
Residents told me that the State Government has not seriously investigated alternative road upgrades, and I believe this to be true.
To support their efforts, I wrote to the Federal Environment Minister urging her to not approve the project due to its impact on the Endangered Australasian Bittern.
